In My Opinion...

Molly’s Record store is very quaint store in the heart of South Philadelphia. Along the storefront are discounted records. They are about a buck apiece, in decent condition, and definitely worth checking out. I have found some groovy albums out there that sound decent for costing less than a burger at Wendy’s. One of my favorite things about Molly’s is the atmosphere inside the store. When you walk in, Joe, the shop owner, immediately greets you and offers a helping hand. He has given me some great advice on where to find other record stores in the city, where to purchase a new needle, and what to look for when digging through records. A majority of the records are classic rock, soul, and blues, but each genre has a good size collection. I adore the soundtrack section of Molly’s because they always have bizarre, intriguing soundtracks to movies I love (Ghostbusters, the Hobbit, E.T) and movies I never knew existed. It is always a joy digging through the records because you will never know what you are going to stumbled upon in that section, or in any of the sections throughout the store. Molly’s always keeps me on my toes. The store is in a great location. It is just down the street from Di Bruno Brother’s market, who makes mozzarella that owns a piece of my heart. This store is an absolute must when in the neighborhood. Do not even think of wasting your time at Pat or Gino’s cheesesteaks. Get out there and explore; the Italian market district offers too many delicious foods to stick to what you've had in the past.

What the people say...

Molly's is a great little hole in the wall hidden in the Italian Market that carries a decent little selection of LP's, 45's, and used books which is a great combination. I check Molly's whenever I hit up the shops around South Street and walk down to Sit and Spin. It's pretty much the mid-way point between Repo, Noise Pollution and Sit and Spin. Anyway, Molly's selection mainly consists of classic rock with some punk mixed in and every once and a while you can find some seriously rare records there. Their prices are more then fair, and there are usually good finds in the cheapo bins outside too if you're on a budget. The owner, Joe, knows his stuff and I've spent ample amounts of time just hanging out and chatting about records and shows with him, he's a good dude. Molly's is one of the last hidden gem's in Philly and if you stop in at the right time, you just might find a white whale or two.

Record Breakdown

Type of Vinyl: Used.

Trade-ins? Yes. Here is a link for what they are interested in buying: http://www.mollysbooksandrecords.com/sell-to-us/

Pricing: Fair. Roughly $10-$15 a record.

Average Condition: Decent. The covers tend to be a little warn, but the record is always scratch free. I'd say it's a good place for someone looking for sound quality over aesthetics.

Digging Required? Minimum. The shop is small and seperate by genre. Each genre is broken down alphabetically with the occasional, more popular, band organizer (i.e. Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, etc) to make sorting much easier.

Great for people looking for: Classic Rock, Blues, Jazz, Soul, Hip-hop, Soundtracks, and International.
