In My Opinion...
On my journeys through New Jersey searching for thrift shops, I stumbled upon Tunes Records. The records are nearly organized as you first walk into the shop, and fairly easy to sort through. A majority of the records available are Classic Rock and new albums. This is a good little shop for someone looking for relatively cheap records (used) or affordable new records. If you’re looking for variety, I would recommend this store, but as most record stores, you never know what you’re going to find, so I wouldn’t rule it out completely. My only complaint about Tunes is it doesn’t have a huge selection of records. A majority of the store is filled with CDs and DVDs, which is fine, but not what I’m looking for. It’s worth stopping by if you’re collecting various old medias, but I wouldn’t recommend it to someone looking to search through hundreds of records.
Record Breakdown
Type of Vinyl: New & Used.
Trade-ins? Yes.
Pricing: Average, but on the higher end.
Average Condition: Pretty good. They are not in sleeves, but the covers are in decent condition, and the records have hardly any scratches on them.
Digging Required? Miniumum. The shelves are hand level, organized alphabetically by genre and by used or new. The clearance bin below the better conditioned bookshelf is hard to sort through since they are unorganized on the ground.
Great for people looking for: New, classic rock, and alternative.
What the people say...
They're my go to record shops, as record shops in South Jersey are few and literally far between. So, in terms of going for RSD, or any new release, it's convenient. So, there's that. What I don't like about them is that they're impersonal. I get that they're a small chain so it can't really be helped, but nonetheless, I prefer indie shops more. Also, tunes are only about 50% records, the rest is CDs and DVDs.
